The process! Ah, God, the process!
Another struggle: A novel is supposed to tell a story about a character or series of characters, but I want this novel to tell _every_ story about this character. Or at least the definitive story. But nobody’s done that since Ulysses, and perhaps no one ever will.
So, what’s a fella to do? I’ve written and rewritten my opening scene five times, now, and I like what I’ve seen, each time. It feels real. It feels good; it feels right.
But damn it, it doesn’t feel like enough!
